Survey and assessment of the current and potential ecological condition of a site and its component habitats is a preliminary requirement common to Ecological Impact Assessment for potential development, and to ecological enhancement projects alike.
Flora /vegetation survey and assessment:
We can provide:
- Phase 1 level survey (using the JNCC (UK/NI) or Heritage Council (RoI) Habitat classifications).
- IEEM or bespoke extended Phase 1 surveys.
- Phase 2 level surveys, usually using the National Vegetation Classification.
Apart from a ready assessment of ecological value, flora and vegetation data are used to gain insights into the ecological function and dynamics of the site in focus.

Environmental Impact Assessment/Statements:
In practice, EIA scoping surveys are rarely commissioned, but consideration of the potential impacts of a development should be made early in the project planning phase to enable potential issues to be addressed in the most cost- and time-effective way.
WM Associates have extensive experience of compiling mandatory Environmental (Impact) Statements, or requested Environmental Impact Assessments, and can provide a robust assessment of potential impacts upon fauna and flora, and has the right expertise to formulate cost-effective mitigating measures designed to avoid, reduce or compensate for negative impacts. Such measures will be subject to close scrutiny during any subsequent planning application.
